Billionaire T Ananda Krishnan, rides high on the selling away of ketuanan Melayu Mahathir back, horse sense

For Malaysian billionaire T Ananda Krishnan, the perfect getaway from running a pan-Asia media and telecommunications empire is to be found not far from Scone, the Upper Hunter town that declares itself the Horse capital of Australia.

In a quiet valley about 10 minutes drive southeast of Scone stands Kia Ora, the thoroughbred stud Krishnan bought in 2000 so he could pursue his passion for breeding racehorses.

Krishnan, now 71, also commissioned construction of a new homestead on the 1800ha property, a remarkable single-level design so in keeping with its dramatic hillside setting that it was named 2007 custom house of the year by the Housing Industry Association of Australia.

Known in Malaysian business circles as just AK, the publicity-shy Krishnan has been linked to a foray into the emerging internet TV scene in Australia through Fetch TV.

Fetch is looking for partnership deals with all major media players in Australia.

Krishnan's first Australian connection came in the form of a Colombo Plan scholarship to Melbourne University, where he graduated in 1959 after studying political science and economy.

He did an MBA at Harvard University (1964) and set up his first company, a Kuala Lumpur consultancy named MAI Holdings.

In the late 1960s, as he ventured into oil and other resources trading, one of his first business associations was with Ken McMahon, the Australian engineer behind Mineral Securities (MinSec), a mining share trading company that collapsed in 1971.

Now, with interests in energy resources, property development, gaming, telecommunications, media and entertainment, Krishnan is regarded as one of Asia's richest men, with a fortune estimated by Forbes magazine earlier this year at US$7 billion (RM23.7 billion).

Since that estimate in March, Krishnan's net worth has been pushed higher by the Nov 19 listing on the Kuala Lumpur bourse of Malaysia's biggest mobile phone company Maxis.

Krishnan and his partners, including Saudi Telecom, hold a 70 per cent stake in Maxis worth more than US$11 billion— through the unlisted vehicle, Maxis Communications.

The financial boost from the $US$3.3bn raised in the Maxis public offering no doubt will come in handy as Krishnan pursues his business goals, including a massive expansion of his Aircel mobile phone company in India, and a possible play in Australia through Fetch TV.

Fetch TV aims to bring together a group of smaller internet service providers that would on-sell video content delivered by an internet-connected TV set-top box to broadband customers.

Its proposed service, priced at about Aus$20 (RM62)- Aus$25 (RM77.85 ), would compete with Australian pay TV companies Foxtel and Austar, and other operators offering downloadable content such as Telstra's Tbox and Seven's TiVo.

Aside from his Australian connections, Krishnan has long had an interest in India's south, where regional radio and television are booming.

His family hails originally from Sri Lanka, his grandfather having migrated from then British-ruled Ceylon to work as a public servant in Malaysia.

Krishnan was born in the Brickfields area of Kuala Lumpur in April 1938 to ethnic Tamil parents, and attended the elite Victoria Institution school.

As an international resources trader in the late 1960s and 1970s, Krishnan gradually built up an eclectic range of business holdings.for more click this Mahathir CAUGHT WITH HIS UNDERWEAR DOWN.on Ananda’s yacht

Back in Malaysia, in 1974 he helped set up the national oil and gas company Petronas, and diversified into the gaming business and then real estate and telecommunications.

In 1984 he established Usaha Tegas, the unlisted company that ultimately would become the main holding vehicle for his business interests.

Krishnan prefers to stay well out of the limelight.

He holds no directorships or executive positions in the four major Malaysian companies he controls: Maxis, media and entertainment company Astro All Asia Networks, satellite operator Measat Global, and the diversified power, property and gaming entity Tanjong.

His profile in mainstream Malayasian business circles grew with his massive US$3 billion Kuala Lumpur City Centre development in the early 1990s.

It took him a decade to bring that concept to reality after consolidating a 39ha site that was once the Selangor Turf Club, in the centre of the city.

With the backing of then-prime minister Mahathir Mohamad, he convinced Petronas to become the key tenant in the project's landmark buildings — the 88-storey Petronas Twin Towers, which at 450m, were Asia's tallest occupied buildings when completed in 1996.

how maxis train their front office staff to lie to their customer to rob their money

I write in response to the letter maxis ‘Celcom Broadband: Pathetic and Horrible’ by Mohd Nazim Ganti Shaari.

I sympathise with the writer’s predicament, one that is experienced not just by Celcom customers, but by all internet users.

There internet service in Malaysia is pathetic. The service providers have little or no respect for customer rights, and the quality of service embarrassing to say the least.

Streamyx is the biggest joke, run by a company so arrogant because of its monopoly and sheer size. The alternatives are no better.

Jaring is so small-time that it isn’t worth mentioning (their broadband is also lousy), Maxis and Celcom are horrible, Time has no availability….the list goes on and on.

You can’t trust customer service or technical support, especially for IT stuff. You must do your own research before contacting the company for help, otherwise you will be taken for a ride.

From Nazim’s letter, it sounds like it could be a problem with his modem. This is because he says he had the same problem in Shah Alam and now it’s still happening in KK.

He said that the block next to his has great reception. Did he try the connection there? If it is still poor, I would suggest he demand Celcom replace his modem.

Also, I suggest he take his laptop to a park and try the internet there. 3G internet is meant to be mobile after all

Another thing I can suggest is to get a Xpax prepaid sim card or U mobile sim, or borrow from it a friend. Put it into your handphone, and see the reception quality. I can suggest several tips to improve reception.

If you are certain the modem is not at fault (or if you have replaced it already) get a long USB cable, place your modem in a high place, outdoors if possible, and try to have it facing the celcom tower.

It’s possible your building is obstructing the signal. 3G internet requires a very good reception. Good luck.

This is the same old pattern. Using taxpayers money to bail out losses. This must stop. Giving Kazhanah 350M RM and passingto billions of losses. This is not acceptable.khazanah should be using money to help the rakyat, instead it use money to bailing out a filthy rich crony’s lousy investment in indonesia!
if khazanah dont change it’s ways, i will not vote BN anymore!
This is entertainment industry not a critical industry to the nation. So there is no necessity to use the people’s money to bail out its loses. Why must the government wants to bail out Ananda Krishnan?

BEFORE you accuse me of losing my memory, let me say tha

Malaysian tycoon Ananda Krishnan if you to get more richer please dont steal the poor malaysian money,Raise s/o Yatim have they filled your bank acount to the maximum?

Krishnan sold out and moved on from that project, but it gave him the cash flow to fund his Measat satellites, beginning with Measat-1 in 1996 and culminating in the long-delayed launch of Measat-3 in December 2006.

The satellites give Krishnan's Astro entertainment network the ability to broadcast multiple television and radio channels to regional audiences via direct-to-home broadcasts.

Krishnan also invested US$2 billion in the late 1990s to develop satellite-based telecommunications and a digital mobile network that would eventually became Maxis Communications, the largest cellular operator in Malaysia.

Initially, British Telecom and US telecoms company MediaOne were investors in Maxis, but by 2001 Krishnan's Usaha Tegas had bought out both for a total of US$ 680 million, and had control of the company.

Maxis Communications listed on the Malaysian bourse in 2002, but Krishnan took it private in 2007 to spare minority shareholders the risk associated with overseas expansion in Indonesia, where Maxis has 44 per cent of mobile operator NTS and in India, where Maxis holds 74 per cent of Chennai-based Aircel.

That company, which has 20 million subscribers, is strongest in Tamil Nadu state but aims to be a fully fledged national operator by the end of this year.

Krishnan's other main India play is via Astro, which in August paid about Aus$20 million to lift its stake from 7 per cent to 20 per cent in the Sun FM radio network. — The Australian

PRIVATISATION IS THE LICENSE FOR ELITE MALAYS TO THE EAT the POOR MALAYS, THE MCA GURKA Datuk Liow Tiong Lai WAS ASK TO CLOSE ONE EYE THIS IS HOW THEY RIP OFF THE N ATION’S WEALTH. THIS IS MAHARTIRISM. The postponement comes just a day after Najib revealed that the green light had been given to Sime Darby to acquire a majority stake. The Umno elite appear to be out of touch not only with the masses but also with their They are very impatient before the power take over, why the over confidence? ? Because someone somewhere needs to generate more money in their pockets Will there be another government hand out to Nazir’s ideas -not that they are really despicably bad his ideas- but just that we had been told by Najib himself of more transparent transplant of less corruptive values in negotiating government jobs, had we not just recently? Will the Government be building a another new IJN once this IJN is sold off? Where? How many? What is price tag on IJN are we talking about here?Who is funding the take over? As Finance Minister and the chief “fatal” backdoor takeover of Golden Hope and Guthrie Corporation by Sime Darby via Synergy Drive, which was the creation of his brother, Mohd Nazir.Sime Darby was once a diversified and highly regarded company. Iam just helping my brother is it crime in our country To help our siblings Could the proposed sale of IJN to Sime Darby be Mohd Najib’s way of helping to prop up the (new) Sime Darby, which is essentially the product of his brother’s market-making? I beg Mohd Najib to start thinking seriously about the welfare of the masses like his late father did instead of pushing the country towards exclusivity for the sake of profits and short-term gains . Take for example Prince Court Medical Centre (PCMC)which costed Petronas RM770 million in total was built in the view that this is a social obligation by Petronas to serve the public at large. But how many people actually go to PCMC? To be honest, I don’t know where PCMC is heading in the healthcare business. I have some specialist friends who are being paid in excess of RM50k a month to do visitation in PCMC and yet come back complaining about lack of patients and procedures to be performed. Well, if you want to have a corporate social responsibility, might as well build a hospital in Sudan, Chad or Somalia. suffer from their actions.there more people can we are poor . THE SUDDENESS with which the news that the National Heart Institute (IJN) may be privatised to Sime Darby appeared in the media suggests that conspiracy of sorts is at work.a promise as “guaranteeing low fees for the poor” is made by no less then the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Mohd Najib Abdul Razak, himself. The Port Klang Free Zone scandal may be big, but it is only the latest in a long line of Malaysian scandals going back to the early 1980s. Time Magazine quoted Daniel Lian, a Southeast Asia economist at Morgan Stanley in Singapore, saying that the country might have lost as much as U$100 billion since the early 1980s to corruption.”

The scandals listed below are only a small sample of the looting of the country’s coffers:

In July of 1983, what was then the biggest banking scandal in world history erupted in Hong Kong, when it was discovered that Bumiputra Malaysia Finance (BMF), a unit of Bank Bumiputra Malaysia Bhd, had lost as much as US$1 billion which had been siphoned off by prominent public figures into private bank accounts. The story involved murder, suicide and the involvement of officials at the very top of the Malaysian government. Ultimately it involved a bailout by the Malaysian government amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars.

Mak Foon Tan, the murderer of Jalil Ibrahim, a Bank Bumi assistant manager who was sent to Hong Kong to investigate the disappearance of the money, was given a death sentence, and Malaysian businessman George Tan who had participated in looting most of the funds, was jailed after his Carrian Group collapsed in what was then Hong Kong’s biggest bankruptcy, and a handful of others were charged. No major politician was ever punished in Malaysia despite a white paper prepared by an independent commission that cited cabinet minutes of Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad giving an okay to a request to throw more money into the scandal in an effort to contain it.

That was just the first Bank Bumi scandal. The government-owned bank had to be rescued twice more with additional losses of nearly US$600 million in today’s dollars. Ultimately government officials gave up and the bank was absorbed into CIMB Group, currently headed by Nazir Razak, the prime minister’s brother. That scandal, which stretched over several years before its denouement in 1985, set the tone for 24 years of similar scandals related to top Malaysian officials and was the first to prove that in Malaysia, you can not only get away with murder, you can get away with looting the treasury as well.

Perwaja Steel, for instance, lost US$800 million and its boss, Eric Chia, a crony of Mahathir’s, was charged with looting the company. He stood trial, but was acquitted without having to put on a defense.

In the mid 1980s, the Co-operative Central Bank, a bank set up to aid the Indian smallholder community, had to be rescued by Bank Negara, the country’s central bank, after hundreds of millions of ringgit in loans granted to a flock of United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) and Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) politicians became non-performing. Some had never been serviced at all. Although the chief executive and general manager were charged with criminal breach of trust, none of the politicians were ever charged.

Before that, the Malaysian government was believed to have lost US$500 million in an attempt at Mahathir’s urging to corner the London tin market through a company called Maminco, driving the world price of tin from US$4.50 per tonne to US$7.50. It then sought to cover up the loss by establishing a US$2 company called Mukawasa from which allocations of new share issues to the government’s Employees Provident Funds’ were diverted. Mukawasa expected to sell the shares at a windfall profit to hide the tin speculation.

Mahathir also was behind an attempt by the then governor of Bank Negara, the central bank, to aggressively speculate in the global foreign exchange market. Bank Negara ended up losing an estimated RM20 billion. The governor, Jaffar Hussein, and the head of forex trading, Nor Mohamed Yakcop were forced to resign.

There have been many other political and financial scandals since. In 2005,Bank Islam Malaysia, the country’s flagship Islamic bank, reported losses of RM457 million mainly due to provisioning totaling RM774 million as a result of bad loans and investments incurred by its Labuan branch. Cumulatively, Bank Islam ran up nonperforming loans of RM2.2 billion, partly from mismanagement and poor internal controls but also “years of regulatory indifference fueled by the misconceived notion of an untouchable Bank Islam because it was a favorite child of the Malaysian government, being the first and model Islamic bank in the country and region,” according to a December 19, 2005 article in Arab News.

“Bank Islam had a reputation in the market for being the spoilt child of the Malaysian Ministry of Finance; and the perception of the bank was more of a Muslim financial fraternity or government development financial institution,” the report said.

In 2007, in what was called Malaysia’s Enron scandal, the publicly tradedTransmile Group Bhd, whose chairman was former MCA President and Cabinet Minister Ling Liong Sik, was caught having overstated its revenue by RM530 million. A pretax profit from Rm207 million in 2006 was actually a loss of RM126 million, and a pretax profit of 120 million in 2005 was a loss of RM77 million, causing the government postal company Pos Malaysia & Services Holdings Bhd to warn that its earnings for the 2006 financial year might be affected by the reported overstatement, as the postal group owned 15.3 percent of Transmile.

Over the years 2001 to 2006, the government had to spend billions to rescue seven privatized projects including Kuala Lumpur’s two public transport systems, the perennially ailing Malaysia Airlines, the national sewage system and a variety of others that, in the words of one study, “had been privatized prematurely.” The government also repeatedly bailed out highway construction concessionaires, all of them closely connected to UMNO, to the tune of another RM38.5 billion.

In 2008, it was revealed that Rafidah Aziz, who had served as trade and industry minister for 18 years, had been peddling approved permits for duty-free car sales and allegedly lining her pockets. Two companies which didn’t even have showrooms – one of which belonged to the husband of Rafidah’s niece – received scores of permits. Although Rafidah came in for heavy criticism from within UMNO, she remained in office until she was defeated in party elections.

In the 1960s, federal prosecutors in the United States who were attempting to jail the late labor boss Jimmy Hoffa for looting the Teamsters Pension Fund of millions of dollars with his cronies were puzzled by the fact that their revelations appeared to have little effect on the union’s rank and file. It was because no matter how much money Hoffa and his cronies stole, there was always money left because the fund was so rich. That appears to be the case with Malaysia.

Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamid had attended many of these courses when MAHATHIR SENT ME, THAT BOOT CAMP DURING HEIGHT OF REFORMASI WHEN I WAS IN ANWAR IN HOUSE

(Bernama) -- The courses conducted by the Biro Tatanegara (BTN) or National Civics Bureau do not contain any element of racism, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamid had attended many of these courses when MAHATHIR SENT ME, THAT BOOT CAMP DURING HEIGHT OF REFORMASI WHEN I WAS IN ANWAR IN HOUSE

"I do not see any element of racism there," he told reporters after the signing of contracts by Armed Forces football players for the 2010 Malaysia League, here.

Saying that it was the right of the Selangor government to prohibit its civil servants and students of its tertiary institutions from attending the courses, Dr Ahmad Zahid said the ban could be due to anxiety of the opposition leaders over the people's support in the state.

"They are apparently afraid of the people losing confidence in their leadership," he said.

The Selangor government yesterday announced that it was barring state civil servants, students in state-run higher learning institutions and employees of state government-linked companies from attending courses organised by the BTN, effective immediately, allegedly because they were an indoctrination process and smacked of racism.

Dr Ahmad Zahid said Selangor executive councillor Datuk Hassan Ali himself had been a BTN director-general, but the question of racism did not arise during his tenure.

He also spoke on the appointment of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the economic advisor to the Selangor government, and said it was a cause of waning support for the state government.

"Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has expertise in the economic field, and he does not have to appoint Anwar. This is assuming of authority by Anwar," he said.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Ahmad Maslan said the Selangor government's decision would deny the opportunity for the relevant civil servants and students to learn more about the country and its policies. "BTN has never belittled any community.

The subject matter is associated with the Federal Constitution and the concept of unity in a plural society," he said in a statement.

Ahmad said the knowledge and information disseminated at the courses were from historical facts and data garnered from relevant agencies and experts, and the syllabus involved training based on noble values aimed at making the participants citizens who could contribute to nation-building.

The participants were at liberty to offer their views and express their criticism and stand on issues, he added.

"The people have to understand the policies which shape nation-building. The 1Malaysia concept supports the Federal Constitution and the spirit of patriotism regardless of ideology because they are fundamental to the success of Vision 2020 (of moulding Malaysia into a developed nation)," he said. The Coalition of Malaysian Indian NGO's (Comin) had in December 2007 called on the government to look into the issues raised by Hindraf and resolve these issues through dialogues and peaceful negotiations rather than suppressing the grievances raised through measures that can only be considered as vengeful and hateful.

We had made our call subsequent to the peaceful mass rally on Nov 25, 2007 organised by Hindraf which was brutally suppressed by Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) who used water cannons containing chemically-laced water and tear gas on the peaceful protestors.

Five of the key organizers, P Uthayakumar, M Manoharan, V Ganabathy Rao, R Vasanthakumar and G Kengadharan were incarcerated in Kamunting under the Internal Security Act while P
Waythamoorthy is still living in exile continuing his struggle from abroad.

Many saw the Hindraf rally as a wake-up call for Indian Malaysians but in truth we now realise that Nov 25, 2007 was a wake-up call for Malaysians of all races. About three months later, on March 8, 2008, Malaysia saw a peaceful transition of power for four state governments to Pakatan Rakyat with Barisan Nasional losing its two-thirds majority in Parliament for the first time in recent memory.

The results of the general election in 2008 exposed the strong feelings of discontent against corruption, discrimination, abuse of power by law enforcement agencies, violent action taken against peaceful demonstrators, use of the ISA against dissenters, mismanagement and mal-administration in the public sector and the severe lack of meaningful initiatives to alleviate the problems of both the urban and rural poor.

For once it exposed the weaknesses of communal politics and the failure of the national leadership and that of the minority community in realising their constitutional rights. It was only after the severe defeat at the general election 2008 and the several subsequent by-elections that followed did the authorities show any sign of realisation as to the depth and severity of the issues affecting the Indian Malaysians specifically and the majority of Malaysians generally.

Though we note that some initiatives are now being implemented by the federal government and state governments on a piecemeal basis, we have concerns as to whether such initiatives are real institutional changes that will offer change and restore confidence in the minds of people.

This land belongs to all. It is our primordial duty to see that no single citizen is made to feel as if he is not one among us. There is enough for all and everyone. For democracy to succeed, it has to be a tool that ought to address the needs of the weak and the minority more than the majority.

We agree that the nation must be centred on the federal constitution, rule of law and institutional reforms that guarantee the rights of every citizen, without dwelling on our communal differences.
Noting the prevailing socio-political situation, on this, the second anniversary of the Hindraf rally, Comin makes the following proposals:

1.We urge members of the Indian community in Malaysia to engage with one another and be united in what should be a common aim of empowering impoverished Indians so they can be useful citizens of this country.

Whilst differences can and should exist and be debated rationally and through the democratic process, we urge politicians, temple leaders and NGOs to put aside personality clashes and political differences when dealing with the plight of poor Indians and work together across party lines in this common aim.

Thus, we call on all Indian members of the Dewan Rakyat, Dewan Negara and the respective state legislative assemblies to form one cross party political caucus to address Indian issues, similar to what we see in the US Congress, where Black and Pacific Island caucuses exist consisting of members from both the Republican and Democratic parties.

2.We also urge the federal government and all the state governments, be they from the Barisan Nasional or the Pakatan Rakyat, to show their sincerity in improving the lot of the Indian community.

Concrete and tangible efforts must be made to improve educational opportunities, moral upliftment, the provision of living skills training and the creation of employment and small business opportunities.

Efforts to improve national unity must be done in a transparent and genuine method. To that end, we reiterate our call for the creation of an independent non-political task force to be a monitoring body comprising representatives selected by the NGOs themselves to oversee the implementation of the initiatives for reform that are so desperately needed.

The Government's '1Malaysia' concept must be practised and implemented in a manner that gives every Malaysian the sense of pride that he is wanted, appreciated and recognised in the development and progress of our beloved country.

The landlord has now told her to move out. Veeni and her seven children will become homeless at any time from now. There are hundreds of thousands of such poor and homeless Indian families in Malaysia but who get almost zero help from the Malaysian government. All this despite UMNO Prime Minister Najib Razak’s RM 220 Million Budget 2010 allocation for welfare senior citizens and the poor. The poverty line index as per this budget is RM 720.00 per month. But all his help does not reach Veeni because she is an Indian poor. She and hundreds of thousands of other Indians are rejected even at the counter levels of the welfare departments. In any event it is the duty of the Malay-sian UMNO Welfare Department to ensure that not even one Indian is homeless and suffering from poverty.

INFLUENTIAL MUSLIMS Misfortune 500

The real Mahathir laid bare for Malaysians and UMNO: Siti Hasmah says “he belongs to the people“ at a cost of RM100 billion
Malaysia has squandered an estimated RM100 billion on financial scandals under the 22-year rule of Dr Mahathir Mohamad, according to a new book about the former prime minister.
According to Barry Wain, author of the soon-to-be launched ‘Malaysian Maverick: Mahathir Mohamad in Turbulent Times’, direct financial losses amounted to about RM50 billion.
This doubled once the invisible costs, such as unrecorded write-offs, were taken into account. The RM100 billion total loss was equivalent to US$40 billion at then prevailing exchange rates.
Barry, who is a former editor of the Asian Wall Street Journal, says most of the scams, which included a government attempt to manipulate the international tin price and gambling by Bank Negara on global currency markets, occurred in the 1980s.
‘Malaysian Maverick’ is the first independent, full-length study of Mahathir, who retired in 2003 after more than two decades as premier. The book will be published globally next week by Palgrave Macmillan.
Wain writes that the Mahathir administration, which took office in 1981 with the slogan, “clean, efficient, trustworthy”, was almost immediately embroiled in financial scandals that “exploded with startling regularity”.
By the early 1990s, he says, cynics remarked that it had been “a good decade for bad behaviour, or a bad decade for good behaviour”.
Secret military deal with US
The book also reveals that:
Mahathir, despite his nationalistic rants, signed a secret security agreement with the United States in 1984 that gave the Americans access to a jungle warfare training school in Johor and allowed them to set up a small-ship repair facility at Lumut and a plant in Kuala Lumpur to repair C-130 Hercules transport aircraft.
Mahathir used a secret fund of his ruling UMNO to turn the party into a vast conglomerate with investments that spanned almost the entire economy.
Mahathir’s UMNO financed its new Putra World Trade Centre headquarters in Kuala Lumpur partly with taxpayers money, by forcing state-owned banks to write off at least RM140 million in interest on UMNO loans.
Wain, who is now a writer-in-residence at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies in Singapore, however credits Mahathir with engineering the country’s economic transformation, deepening industrialisation and expanding Malaysia’s middle class.
But Mahathir had undermined state institutions, permitted the spread of corruption and failed to provide for Malaysia’s future leadership, he says.

The book will be published globally next week by Palgrave Macmillan.

is a list of “influential” Muslims which kind of implies those who have power already. Like it or not, it only shows that the people who have the most power among Muslims are either Eastern dictarors or in the West.

This list merely shows us how far we have to go, so it can usefully serve as a baseline for our hopefully-progressive social development. The top ten is pretty much the “who’s who” of deception, torture, and theft. Nice. The “book” should be titled, “Like It or Not, 500 of the Most Influential Muslims as Noted by Saudi and American Funded Think Tanks”

Recently published for public consumption, The 500 Most Influential Muslims (PDF) is already causing a stir throughout the web. While many are satisfied with the list’s contents or happy to have made the cut, others are shocked by the absence of particular names. Generally, however, most people are simply confused by the peculiar selection of the list’s 500 names.

One major issue with the book is that it privileges Muslims from the Arab Middle East and Western countries. The list is dominated by names of Muslims from Western and Arab countries. However, this does not necessarily reflect self-centeredness (after all, this list was prepared by Middle Eastern and Western institutions). Instead, it reflects ignorance of Muslims in the rest of the world. Neither Africa nor Southeast Asia receives a dignified mention; nor does the rest of Asia. Apparently, for Georgetown and the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre, Africa is still the Dark Continent! For scholars of Esposito’s stature to ignore the fact that influential Muslims are found wherever Islam is found is hardly acceptable or even believable. It was nothing short of a crime of omission.

Another glaring oddity is the list’s separate category for women. The fact that women were sidelined into their own category reflects mere lip service to women’s equality. The “add women and stir” approach to addressing the gender gap has been a worn out way for a number of decades for those seeking to demonstrate gender-inclusiveness despite their lack of desire to include women as equal partners. The fact that this kind of practice still persists within respected academic institutions is damning, particularly to the study of Islam, and shows a great failure on the part of those leading the editorial process.

To add insult to injury, the list of influential women is remarkably short. The gaping hole that could have been filled with so many of the world’s remarkable Muslim women reflects a lack of recognition and respect shown to Muslim women as leaders and scholars. Women are also completely missing from the book cover, both literally and figuratively relegated to a separate space.

It is undeniable that female scholars and leaders are given less airtime than men throughout the Muslim world. But, more importantly, it is also undeniable that female scholars often outclass their male counterparts. The list thus perpetuates the unfortunate rule that Muslim women will receive neither the mention nor the credit they deserve for their contributions.

At a fundamental level we are unlikely to all agree on who constitutes a “Muslim”, let alone who constitutes an influential one, and in this way all lists like this are an exercise in foolishness. The way that international policy makers see influence is different than the way an average Muslim man or woman is going to see it—each person is influenced in different ways. The book’s key problem is thus its lack of a specific methodology to deal with the concept of influence. Judging from the book’s composition, it appears that no methodology was used at all, which makes it a completely subjective list chosen by people who will have to pick certain people because of political alliances, religious motivations, or a stated mission, such as the promotion of a tolerant Islam.

That said, the book is useful as a general guide to who’s who in the Arab and Western Muslim world. And although the philosophical divisions in the book’s introductory pages lack academic credibility, the classification is nevertheless done in a clear and intelligent way. This should help many Muslims and non-Muslims grapple with the complexity of our incredibly diverse religion.

However, while the book conveys a lot of information, little is authenticated by reliable sources. The list thus operates on the faulty assumption that the editors’ stature ensures the book’s reliability. As a properly researched and referenced book, this would have been a great addition to the bookshelf of anyone interested in notable Muslims.

A next attempt at creating such a list should be named Who’s Who of Islam. It should serve as a guide to important Muslims around the world, listed by country and topic. The list could be carefully divided to represent the reality of Muslim demographics, and regional editors could be used to give a clear picture of the “movers and shakers” in those regions. A side publication could be The Power Brokers in the Muslim World, where the majority of the figures in the Top 50 would be placed. This would better reflect the reality of our world, but would also provide some measure of academic rigor, and make the writing of such a list less of an imprudent undertaking.

Tell YOUR PEOLE the true Malaysian story, beginning with the story of Altantuya C4 murder YOUR SMS THAT CAUGHT WITH YOUR PANTS DOWN

Before telling the world the true Malaysian story, let Malaysians know the truth of what is happening in Malaysia – beginning with the story of Altantuya C4 murder

Lim Kit Siang profile picture

In his recent visit to New York, the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak said Malaysia’s message of reforms and transformation needs to be told to foreign investors consistently or risk being overshadowed by countries like China and other emerging economies.

First things first. Najib should allow the true Malaysian story to be told to Malaysians first or the credibility of the Malaysian story to global investors by Najib’s spin doctors would come under a great discount.

In the era of instant communications, it is both imprudent and self-defeating to believe that it is possible to mislead global investors about what is happening in the country.

Recently in less than three months, Malaysia suffered three grievous blows undermining Malaysia’s international competitiveness, viz:

  • World Economic Forum (WEF)’s Global Competitiveness Report (GCR) 2009-2010 – dropping three places from 21st to 24th ranking;

  • World Bank’s Doing Business 2010: Reforming Through Difficult Times – falling two places from 21st to 23rd placing.

  • Transparency International Corruption Perception Index 2009 – worst ranking at No. 56 and score of 4.5, as well as the worst single-year drop in 15 years in CPI ranking by nine places from No. 47 last year and fall of 0.6 CPI score from 5.1 last year.

It is because “global investors” are privy to the “true Malaysian story” that the country has suffered these grievous blows to our international competitiveness.

A good start to tell the world the true Malaysian story is to let Malaysians know the truth of so many dark secrets of the Malaysian story, stating with the true story of the C4 murder of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu.

The Prime Minister and the authorities concerned just cannot pretend that the re-appearance of private investigator P. Balasubramaniam after 18 months and his video explanation for his two Statutory Declarations contradicting each other within 24 hours in July last year in connection with the Altantuya murder case, followed by the Malaysiakini interview with Bala’s lawyer, Americk Singh Sidhu, do not exist.

A response is warranted from the Prime Minister and the authorities concerned, for to continue to ignore the most damaging disclosures and allegations which have surfaced and taken the Internet by storm would gravely impair the credibility, integrity and legitimacy of the office of Prime Minister and key national instutions in Malaysia – further causing the “true Malaysian story” to global investors to be taken with more than a pinch of salt.

The implosion of BN is near with every component party accusing UMNO being responsible

for the dismal performance of BN presidentTan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon said umno is the dark and vile evil syaitan as umno is the pillar of the above Yes’s. One only needs to look and study these vile umno scumbag leadersplease.is still trying to play the beggar’s role, hoping for UMNO this and that. Truly, never seen a person who depends so much on HOPE. Keep hoping instead of grabbing the bull by it’s horns. A responsible leader should have taken the blame and commit harakiri Now I hope that he does it, better late than never. As long as Gerakan and Mca are being lap-dogs of umno there will never, I say it again, never will have the support of the chinese community. What ever you people do now makes no different except leaving BN. Dont you think being lap-dogs is a damn bloody shame? Dont blame your big brother Amno cause if you do your part right you all will not be what youb are today. Please do not play the blame game now it is too late, very late. Get losnever.UMNO’s arrogance is only half the story. You and your party is perceived to be meek and subservient to your big brother UMNO. Remember just before the elections KJ walked all over you and you hardly protested. You should have stood up to him and give him a big tight slap. If you have done that I bet you are still the CM of Penang todayTalking about taking a greater role but factually

Su-Kun, are you & Gerakan hearing the threat from that Homoshitdin to fill Karamunting Welll, if that is not sheer arrogance, what do you call that? Good analysis but perhaps not precise or specific enough for some members to know what to do. Setting a 10 years target is also realistic. Gerakan has always gave the impression that the party is a party of professionals and it is hoped that it will continue to be that way. If there member were to be more brave and not fear of losing their position and seats to voice out, it may not have fared that bad. You may have to wait for DAP to make grave mistakes to recapture Penang or anywhere. A lot of damage has been done. Gerakan is a gone case. The whole problem was due to Gerakan, MIC and MCA being manipulated by Umno. Your so called power sharing were just a way for Umno to use you to bait the Chinese and Indian votes over the years. Your “behind close door” meetings were nothing a charade to fool your own selve Whatever flaws UMNO might have, its your own damn fault that you didn’t dare stand up to them when you were in a position to do so. You waited until you have nothing before you made some noise. You think anyone would listen to you now? when umno is the dark and vile evil syaitan as umno is the pillar of the above Yes’s. One only needs to look and study these vile umno scumbag leaders, their life styles and the lifestyle of their family, friends and cronies and one will notice all the Yes’s applying on them. Yet these scumbags despite the revelation of all their excesses. lust, greed and abuse of power and flamboyant display of wealth and expensive lifestyle still have the audacity to prented to pious muslims. Isn’t munafiq the right word to describe these rodents who have given a bad name to our noble Prohpet’s Muhammad’s true compassionate and ever loving Islam.Art of war Enemy of our enemy is an ally. Go ahead Gerakan. You are right. Gerakan lost the polls because of UMNO. MIC is right too that the people did not reject MIC but BN. Yeah now UMNO will have its hands full facing the attack from within. Come on PR give some support for MIC and Gerakan to go against UMNO.

This is a very nice wayang for us to watch. I had enough of hearing BN spin of DAP and PAS. Now lets see what sleeping together for 50 years have done to them. I hope MCA will join the fray soon.Koh said Gerakan would like to play a role of reformer in the BN but has to reform itself first.

Gerakan acting presidentTan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon yesterday blamed the “arrogance of power” of certain Umno leaders for the party’s defeat in the generalelection.

After chairing a four-hour central delegatesbriefi ng on the elections yesterday, Kohsaid the party took the election results as anindicator of people being dissatisfi ed with whatthey perceived as the“arrogance of power” of the Barisan Nasional (BN).

“Certain Umno leaders’ deed, words andactions, in the past two years, have resulted in a feeling of resentment,” he said.

“However, we are very critical that we mayhave not done enough and did not do enough.Perhaps that power had got into our head after
leading Penang for 39 years.

1 Malaysia F1 ScandaL borne MCA virus a new threat to NAJIB GOVERMENT CAN HIS SUPERMUSA HASSAN SAVE HIM?
Instead of hunting down the criminals behind PKFZ the police are trying to stop the leaks!
Police have summoned several individuals to record statements on the posting of the Cabinet Paper on the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) on a website.
Leaked ‘cabinet paper’ tells an alarming tale
The purported cabinet paper posted on Malaysia Today regarding the RM12.5 billion Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) project puts the government in a tight spot
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said police were investigating how the Cabinet Paper which involved the Official Secrets Act (OSA) could be exposed online.
“We are investigating to find out who is responsible for exposing information on the Cabinet Paper. However, I can’t comment more on this as it will disturb our investigation,” he told Bernama here today.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak told a press conference that police would investigate the exposure of a document said to be that on the PKFZ Cabinet Paper on the “Malaysia Today” website. The unexpected announcement of a super task force to investigate the troubled Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) has dismayed DAP’s Lim Kit Siang who questioned whether the move is an attempt to sweep the findings of previous investigations under the carpet.
Lim expressed concern whether the new task force will invalidate the findings of a previous PwC audit as well as a special task force commissioned by the Port Klang Authority.
There has been also no news of the terms of reference of the super task force nor whether its findings will be made public.
“Will the super task force announced by Najib yesterday result in the PKFZ scandal again shrouded in secrecy and unaccountability?” Lim said in a statement to the media today. “Unless convinced otherwise, I see the establishment of the so-called “super task force” into the PKFZ scandal as a major step backwards in public accountability and good governance, as it smacks of being a super “cover up” task force to get “the cat back into the bag” with specific reference to the RM12.5 billion PKFZ scandal.”
The Barisan Nasional (BN) has some reason to fear a backlash from the public as investigations so far have given rise to allegations against senior government servants and some of its politicians.
Reports have been lodged with the police and anti-corruption commission against Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd which has a number of top execs linked to Umno and its CEO and major shareholder is an MP from Sarawak and the BN backbenchers chief.
The announcement of the super task force was made yesterday after the findings of the special task force was tabled before the cabinet.
The super task force will be led by the chief secretary to government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan and will include Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Dr Abdul Aziz Wan Abdullah, Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, officers from the transport ministry and various professionals.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had said in his announcement yesterday however that action would be taken against any abuse of power, regardless who the individuals were.
Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat also said today that the super task force would refer to the findings of the special task force, which was commissioned by his ministry, and was necessary as some agencies and ministries that are involved with PKFZ such as the treasury, was beyond the authority of his ministry.
PKFZ which was initially projected to cost less than RM2 billion may now end up costing as much as RM12 billion by some estimates and had to be rescued with a RM4.6 billion government loan in 2007.
Kit Siang also reiterated his call for a Royal Commission of Inquiry be established to look into PKFZ due to its size and complexity.
“There should be individual and collective Ministerial responsibility by the Cabinet members for the shocking decision yesterday to set up the so-called super task force, when the right course of action would be a Royal Commission of Inquiry to conduct a public and no-holds-barred investigation into the “mother of all scandals” in the nation’s history,” he said.
Tony Pua, Lim’s fellow DAP MP also expressed shock at the announcement and said that the task force “defies logic” as it will “comprise of senior officials from the Ministry of Finance and Transport who were themselves involved both directly and indirectly with the project, some right from its very inception.”
“How can we expect this new ‘high-powered’ task force of Ministry officials to act impartially and professionally when they themselves are vested interest parties?” he said in his statement to the media.
Pua also questioned the “millions” spent on the special task force only to see another one being established.
“Have the reports by Skrine and PwC been so incomplete and inconclusive that the Government must set up another task force to investigate further? If that is the case, then the Prime Minister should demand the Special Task Force to do their homework properly, especially since millions of public funds are being paid to them.
“If, however, the Special Task Force has done their investigations diligently and comprehensively, then why is there a need for a separate new ‘high-powered’ task force?”
He also pointed out that the Public Accounts Committee and the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) is also investigating PKFZ.
“The latter has been investigating without anything to show since December 2004 when the first Anti-Corruption Agency report on PKFZ was lodged. This means that there are now nine task forces, committees or agencies which are investigating or have investigated the PKFZ scandal!”
He said the investigation was not to deny the people’s right to information but the act of exposing the Cabinet Paper on the Internet was unacceptable.
If the Cabinet acted with full knowledge as the documents seem to show, that basically makes them accomplices. And if that’s the case, ALL of them need to start looking for a new job.

TAXIDRIVER UNMASKED TURBOR CHARGED SPINING idotic minister his PhD in spinning got under fat ros mama’s saronglicking her filthy pusy

Najib Razak, Sharizat Jalil and Khairy Jamaluddin are going to form the leadership backbone for Umno. Can their leadership provide a new impetus for the party's revival? Can Umno help to rejuvenate other BN component parties?

There are several issues which the new leadership must address quickly:

1. The party is suffering from a serious perception deficit. It is known for being a bully, a rule bender, rowdy, autocratic and feudalistic. The party does not mind manipulating religion, race and recently the monarchy to satisfy its political agenda.

One of the biggest challenges for the party under the new leadership is to prove to us that it is ready and capable of governing a multiracial society.

An Umno which caters for only the Malay community may help to extend the lifeline of the party but not the coalition's. Can Najib convincingly rebrand his leadership to appeal to all Malaysians? Can his leadership be current and flexible enough to win over the waning support of young Malaysians?

2. Umno new leadership is the most controversial in the party's history. Najib is entangled with several allegations. Two veteran leaders, Dr Mahathir and Tengku Razaleigh, had urged the new president to come clean on the matter.

Ku Li told The Malaysian Insider, "(He) should take the witness stand to clear his name or take legal action against the growing number of foreign publications linking him with the murder of Altantuya Shariibuu and the purchase of submarines.

He "should finally face these suspicions and implied charges, submit himself to legal scrutiny, and come clean on them.'' Meanwhile, Khairy was implicated in the last general election as one of the main causes of BN's stunning defeats.

A number of BN leaders had quietly singled him out for arousing the anger of non-Malays. The two leaders have a lot of work to do to repair their public image.

3. Under Najib leadership, will his reforms plan suffer the same fate like Abdullah's?

Several actions taken by the Umno led government do not augur well for his leadership e.g. arbitrary use of ISA against civilians, Perak power grab, dubious decisions taken by public institutions against the oppositions, action taken against bloggers, police interference in politics and others.

His leadership has given us a perception that Umno is not committed to promote and defend the rule of law, the federal constitution and the democracy system.

What is Najib's focus and priority?

The interest of this nation or his own political dominance? Malaysians do not like to be kicked around anymore. My sense is that many Malaysians despise unfairness and arrogance.

4. Is Umno willing to share more power with other component parties? These political parties can no longer hide that they are not consulted in policy formulation and decision making within the government. Most of these parties are reduced to making statements in the media.

If the trend continues, expect very little to change in BN. The progress of this country must involve more than just Umno leaders. The party does not the capacity to single handedly pull this nation out of the current economic dilemma.

The talent pool needs to be enlarged. Is the party willing to consider meritocracy over ethnicity?

5. The current perception today is the party is outdated and does not understand the needs and
wants of a multiracial nation. Does the party understand what are the key success factors of a society increasing threatened by complex global challenges?

The plate is full for the new Umno leadership. It takes a superhuman performance of the leaders to rebuild and regain the confidence of Malaysians towards the party.

We are at the twilight of race-based political model.

Kudos to all bloggesr revealing the truth
Anyway, what this dumbassasshole is saying thru his asshole; NST, Utusan, Berita Hairan, The Star, RTM, TV3 and the whole lot of the regime’s spin apparatus had failed miserably in their spinning activities. On the contrary, the Bloggers have prevailed!
Please define “Ummah” … Most Malays/ Muslims in Malaysia define ummah as their Muslim community, the followers of Allah, and this is where the divisiveness of the definition is played up by the racist Govt. In the Quran, the ummah embraces all, the whole community, be it Muslims, Hindus, Christians, Buddhists, etc. etc. and Equality as preached in the Quran means that ALL are Equal, no matter whether they are Muslims or otherwise !
As long as the true teachings are followed the way they are meant to be followed, and not deliberately rationalized by the Racist Barisan Najis / Utterly Moronic Nazi Organization Govt. into a divisive, racist, and jaundiced view of the Teachings of Allah, there should be no problems at all in Malaysia. The trouble is Islam is practised very superficially in Malaysia, where the form and seeming form, is enforced, and not the essence of Islam. The other problem is Islam being used by the Nazi Govt. and the UMNOputras to divide the ummah so they can rule dictatorially in Malaysia. That is the problem here today.
Solution:- VOTE OUT Barisan Najis, and VOTE IN Pakatan Rakyat !
please get under fat ros mama’s sarong…i dont want to see you talk I dunno… but I think if I get to see him in a function, I’ll run on stage and sing “Madu dan Racun”… On one hand, he is trying to appear as if he is promote harmony… But behind his back, I can feel a keris as sharp as a razor, ready to stab every single Malaysian who comes near to shake his hand in approval of his “harmony” statement.
Why? Simply because that statement he made was directed to the opposition supporters… So… does he mean that only the opposition is extreme? Shouldn’t he look into the mirror and ask himself that question? And then SHOUT that out in UMNO assemblies to his own supporters?
Does he even know what NTR was talking to DSAI during tea time? Or he just couldn’t find a proper seat, thus he had to sit next to DSAI? Or maybe NTR was saying something sinister, or whatever… Yet, without quoting a statement NTR made to DSAI, or without even knowing what they talked about, he started singing praises to NTR about his “Harmonious” behaviour…
Is this a genuine compliment, or a work of bodek-ing…. Does anyone noticed how shiny someone shoes has become?
UMNO are not obsessed? Please take a good look at the mirror before making that statement
He said that Allah (God) determined the rise and fall of a government, and the opposition supporters should accept the actual evolution in any struggle.and i thought the UMNO people are doing all those UNMORALY posture…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4b3u4dolhnA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_c__fo6uxA
Please tell that to your boss Najib and his cousin Hishamuddin when they wave the kris and soak it with chinese blood.
Not worth commenting on the statements made by idiots like him, who have exceeded their sell by ..date
Most Malays are not extreme, it those UMNO/BN goons like Rais Yatim and his kind are.
These UMNO/BN goons are trying their best to confuse the Malay by fanning the fire of racism and religion to create extremist among the Malay. What they preach is in total contrast to what they are doing. UMNO/BN is a den full of fork-tongue serpents (credit to Mahathir as their noble guru).
Rais Yatim is clearly anti-national! What’s this about Malay unity all the time? What about Malaysian unity? We are a nation of Malaysians, not just Malays. This is a Minister of Culture? Poordah! He’s more like Minister of Disunity and Stupidity! Go fly kites better!
UMNO must not practice extreme evil, abuses and corruption and Malaysian politics will be fine.
(Bernama) — Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said the Malays must not be too extreme in interpreting their political struggles to the extent of making it difficult to unify the ummah.
He said that Allah (God) determined the rise and fall of a government, and the opposition supporters should accept the actual evolution in any struggle.
“If the Malays are too obsessed with daily and weekly politics, I find that the separation will only be to the detriment of the community or the Muslims themselves,” he told reporters after receiving three cows for sacrifice in conjunction with Aidiladha at the Kg Sepri Mosque, here.
Rais said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had already shown a good example when he made time to have tea with opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during a discussion in Parliament.
“This is a positive attitude where after a heated debate, these leaders have shown that there is time for harmony with fellow countrymen and Muslims,” he said.
Such an attitude should be nurtured by Malay leaders so that the cause of the community could be based on the interest of the religion and not purely on narrow political considerations, he said.

Malaysia should have influential public relations firms similar to lobbying groups in developed nations, said Information, Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim.
We don’t need more spin and more evil. We need more truth and more honest basic skills.
He also proposed that local public relations practitioners use blogs to compete with local bloggers who spin stories on all sorts of issues.Dr. Rais if you want to engage the spin doctor for the gov in the cyberspace, just go ahead but not at the expense of the taxpayers. Just use your UMno or your money and we will have more fun to whack them. The more the merrier. Just bring them on.Dr Rais, with due respect, let me tell u that we may be able to fool some people some time, but we cannot fool people every time ! No amount of spinning can help !
Black is black and White is white ! It is as plain and simple as that ???
You want people and the world to believe black is white and white is black???? Keep on spinning like the others if you choose ! Just because there are some who choose to spin , we now also want to spin
“If others like Barisan Najib spin doctors in Malaysia, but they are just too crude and stupid to even pull the wool over fellow Malaysians’ eyes, let alone those of the investigative media overseas ! What Rais needs is a brain transplant … take out the Utterly Moronic Nazi Org. infested brain of his, and transplant with a Pakatan Rakyat brain, but most of all, transplant his black ossified fossilized Barisan Najis heart with a Pakatan Rakyat’s heart, with the best interests of the Rakyat at heart.
The problem lies not with spin doctors, but squarely with the UMNO & Barisan Najis regime, and with monsters like the murderous Najis Rosak and his Succubus wife Ros-p*ki-mah leading the Nazis in Govt.It seems to me that they are creating issues or excuses just to justify spending money on big projects with contracts to be given out, and of course a commission given to the appropriate parties. It’s not about the issue anymore, it’s about how to make hay while the sun shines.

can spin, why can’t we?” he asked at the launch of two books on the development and practice of public relations and politics in the country at the Institute of Public Relations Malaysia (IPRM) yesterday.
He said in the United States, the role of public relations was extended to political lobbying with the existence of at least 250 lobbying firms in Washington with all sorts of agendas.
“The more influential they are, the higher their paychecks. It’s time for Malaysia to have public relations practitioners who are well trained and knowledgable.”
Dr Rais proposed that public relations practitioners be trained with a syllabus created by IPRM.
To a proposal from IPRM president Prof Datuk Hamdan Adnan that a Public Relations Act be created to enhance the profession, Dr Rais said: “There are no problems about formulating such a law.”
The institute, he said, should work together with the Information Department to determine the definition, powers, functions and advantages of the proposed Act. He suggested that a committee to draft the proposal be set up.
Dr Rais said IPRM and public relations practitioners should use blogs to put forward their views and comments on issues in line with the Government’s aim of promoting Internet activities among the public.

Kudos to all bloggesr revealing the truthAnyway, what this dumbassasshole is saying thru his asshole; NST, Utusan, Berita Hairan, The Star, RTM, TV3 and the whole lot of the regime’s spin apparatus had failed miserably in their spinning activities.
Please take a good look at the mirror before making that statement He said that Allah (God) determined the rise and fall of a government, and the opposition supporters should accept the actual evolution in any struggle.and i thought the UMNO people are doing all those UNMORALY posture…

Rais has decided to stoop so low into the politics of race to win his Vice Presidency.MALAY POLITICS NEEDS STRENGTHENING THROUGH NUMBERS - RAIS Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim has called for the strengthening of Malay politics through numbers so that other races will stop denigrating and ridiculing the Malays. He said that of late, too many sneers were aimed at disgracing the Malays as though the race had lost dignity and direction"Many Malays feel offended with such scornful remarks but there are also many who do not care and let the indigenous polemics be mocked in their own political platforms," he said.Rais, said this in a keynote address at a forum on legal issues and indigenous rights in the constitution at the Tun Hussein Onn Memorial here Sunday. The white men were roused by a mere instinct of self-preservation..... until at last there had sprung into existence a great Ku Klux Klan, a veritable empire of the South, to protect the Southern country."

- Woodrow Wilson

He said the Malays should know their history which could serve as a guide in their political struggle."History can be deemed a major factor which strengthens the argument that the Malays or Malay stock were the first to reside in the Malay States which the world knew as Malaya or Land of the Malays," added RaiOn genetics, its has been proven by dna studies that the people of the nusantara have 19% Indian genes,But at least you got one thing right in stating that 'Malay supremacy is actually the sovereignity and privileges of the Malay Rulers'.not He said, what was perceived as Malay supremacy, was actually the sovereignity and privileges of the Malay Rulers. On the first two counts malays are not the peoples of the peninsula but are immigrants to Malaya and the Nusantara. Prima facie, the Orang Asli are the bumiputras of the Nusantara and all the rest are immigrants. Their claim goes back to 65,000 years ago.The last were the British. Before that the Japanese and Thais. Before that the Dutch and Portugese. The Thais were influencing the northern states all along and receiving tributes or Bunga Emas. Before that Paramesvara of Palembang and PekanBaru and the Malacca sultanate. During that time Malacca was a tributary/colony of China. Before that it was Majapahit. Before that Sri Vijaya. Before that it was the Cholas of India for 150 years in the 10th -11th century. Chinesee records say the Cholas defeated 30 cities in the Peninsula, mostly Kadaram or Kedah.

At the same time some Chams arrived in Kelantan and Trengganu. And some from Pattani moved south. All along there were migrations.

Before that it was Kadaram (Kedah) for one millenia according to Sanusi Junid, going back to 50BCE!

As we can see all along this periods people of the nusantara moved about in this region and many settled. At the same time the Indians and Chinese are coming here regularly, trading and just passing by, and at the same time settling. Nobody asked for citizenship papers. there was no one to issue it too. There was no concept of nation-state. Malacca was a big pasar borong for people from all over asia, then europe too. When the Malaya peninsula is sitting right in between gigantic China and India, what do you expect? If people of the Nusantara migrated to Malaya, then let us see the larger picture that Indians and chinese see the whole of Asia as their nusantara, and they traversed and settled in these regions for over two millenia! If malaya is a part of the Indonesian/Malay nusantara, then all of asia is a part of the Indian and Chinese 'nusantara'. Yes, Asia is their Nusantara. Same logic applies. The modern concept of nation state began in europe after the revolutions, and citizenship became important when elections were introduced in Britain for the first time. Before that Angles, Saxons and Normans just moved about here and there and settled wherever they liked. After each invasion or ruler the demographics changed perceptibly. The most changes were after the British took over Malacca in 1824. At that time the population was only 16,000, and the census shows that that were about half were Indians and Chinese. From the 50s to the 70s, nearly 2 million Indonesians migrated illegally and claimed citizenship. If this is not migration of malays to Malaya, then what is? The history of the last 170 years is a vindication of a history of Indonesians migrating to Malaya, and chinese and indias too migrating to British Straits Settlement AS AGREED by the sultans on the advice of the British Residents. Now do the rulers and their malay subjects wish to go back on their agreement? The chinese and indians arriving here did not take anything from the malays. Heck most of them had never seen a malay in their entire lives. all three communities led separate and cloistered lives and hardly intermingling. As far as the Indians and Chinese were concerned the British were the rulers and masters of the land, and NOT the malays who were traveling back and forth to Sumatra. As far as the Chinese and Indians they came to British territory, and their dealings were only with the British.Penang, Malacca and Singapore were crown territories, not colonies. It has nothing to do with the malays or malay sultans. The Straits Settlements were British lands, not malay lands. In the Federated malay States the British were Advisors and Residents. FMS were not British colonies! The FMS IS malay lands, and here Syed, your contetion is quite right!

On the other hand the Unfederated Malay States (UFMS) of Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan and Trengganu were taken over from the Thais over to the British. It really had nothing to do with the malays but the British decided to accept it as 'protected states' and not 'colonies' although they had every reason to do so. But granted, these 4 states are also 'malay lands'. However, the chinese and Indians had already penetrated these 4 states for economic reasons as the Thais who were the rulers allowed it.

If malays have a problem, they have a problem with the British and the Thais, and NOT with the chinese and indians. the malays should take up the issues with the Thais and British.

If settling, invasion and conquering is the basis of peoples of the land, as the peoples of the nusantara were too, then one must also accept the Britsh invasion, conquering, settling and repopulating! These are British Lands! Not Malay lands!
If the malay rulers moved from Malacca and settled in various states and peopled it, that is the same basis as the British! On a invade, conquer and settling basis.Be that as it may, when it came to withdraw from the region, instead of the messy SS, FMS and UFMS, the British decided to amalgamate 3 nations into one Malayan Union or Federated Malaya. The Malay rulers and malays accepted it! Along with the chinese and indian populations. That was the condition of amalgamation of three nations and independence!

Our forefathers when receiving independence accepted it on a 'as is basis'. That means we accept the situation as it is, a one nation peopled by many races and it equally belongs to all! That was the basis of the Malayan Union If malaysians are unhappy with these ar can be transmigrated to Penang, malacca and Singapore and the malays can be free of non malays to do what they like.

rangements then we must undo the SS, FMS and the UFMS. In this way the non malays

can be transmigrated to Penang, malacca and Singapore and the malays can be free of non malays to do what they like.

Incidentally, the British kept alive the concept of Sovereign British Territory of the Straits Settlement until 1972. Anyone born in Penang, Malacca and Singapore on or before 1972 could apply for automatic British citizenship with right of domicle!! It was some years later in the late 70s they withdrew this privilege. This means the British recognised all peoples of the Straits Settlements as British subjects. The problem is most non malays in the 50s and 60s never thought it was necessary to migrate to UK. They bought the view spread by our forefathers and politicians that malaysia would be for all people equally, and all would be free to perpetuate their cultures as they see fit.

So, we see from my earlier post that there is no basis on account of land ownership and anthropology for malays to claim this is malay lands. they are immigrants as anyone else!

On the historical perspective as I have shown in this post, we see there can be no malay claim wither!

Until the British arrived 90% of the peninsula was empty and deserted, and no one, no ruler had a claim on it. State boundaries were drawn up by the British! The boundary between Malaya and Thailand were drawn up by the British and agreed by the Thais. The Straits Settlements were British lands which they graciously handed over to Malayans along with the demographic changes they introduced, including the large numbers of Indonesians that it attracted.

If rulership is a basis of claim, then perThis is because the monarchy institution or Malay Sultanates are closely linked to the Malay psyche," he said. The Malays needed to identify their political and economic weaknesses and overcome them by doing soul-searching.
He said, remarks on Malay Supremacy cannot be made without substance or ego politics because the privilege had to be backed by continuous capacity and knowledge skills. When we are strong, then only we can say we are masters.

This has to be fine-tuned and a Malay leader has to show the capability and strength in politics. But if there are Malay leaders still buying votes to climb up, we will never be strong and respected as masters on our own soil," he said.Rais said that in this regard, Umno, as a party for the Malays, had to be reshuffled and Article 3 of the party's Constitution on the premises and objectives had to be embraced because it contained the real Malay agenda. In the constitution, the meaning of Malay itself has three basic conditions. Firstly, the individual has to be Muslim, secondly speak Malay and thirdly, follow the Malay custom," he said.In terms of Bumiputera share in national wealth, Rais said the Malays had to reject the "at least 30 per cent ratio" and replace it with "the highest ratio possible".Besides, he said, all policies affecting the Malays and indigenous people and Islam had to go through political vetting first before the government made decisions.Besides, Rais said, the Malays must stay away from elements that could weaken their image. He said that behind the current polemic, one positive aspect that had arisen was the move of the Malay Rulers who came forward to lend assistance when needed."Perhaps, the Malay Rulers felt the calling to do so and we appreciate it. It seems, politicians in the country also welcome the move of the Malay Rulers," he addedRais also called for a law enforcement system and policy which prevented certain quarters from continuing to dispute the rights and privileges of
THE RAAYAT HAVE SPOKEN
The voices from the street the people’s thinks you dirt baggae
i think rais is trying to stir some shiat. i think most of us (incl malays) are denigrating the umno fellas...and so happened u r one of them.Rai, you had only said one thing right, we are not disparaging the big number of Malays, good Malays like Datuk Zaid and many! We may scorn at you Umno who have herds of pea brains and nerds! We are not talking about number to show our respect, we are talking about brain and good brains, fair-minded brain like you are lacking of are those we will respect! Race or right minded Malays are not in our category of denigrate and despised! ....For you and your breed, you deserve our salivas and our middle fingers! NaAnother 'cow dung' so afraid of his special rights being questioned. When his UMNO goon questioned the citizenship of the squatter chinese, he seem at ease with those remarks but now want the police to prevent ceratin quarters from continuing to dispute the special rights of the Malays. May I tell you Rais, the Malays are also immigrants and not the original bumiputras (original land owners).
If anything, the original land owners do require a helping hand economically but now it seems the special rights equate to across the board Malays being spoon fed like babies. I question this kind of racist policies and like minded Malays too will feel offended if we think the only way they can be successful in Malaysia is for government assistance. It would seem that those hardcore poor Malays are not benefiting from this special rights racist policy. The proof is out there and everyone knows it including Rais. Now this reminds me of something someone once said.....
"The white men were roused by a mere instinct of self-preservation..... until at last there had sprung into existence a great Ku Klux Klan, a veritable empire of the South, to protect the Southern country."
Woodrow WilsonGod bless Malaysia, my home sweet home.
When people whack UMNO, it is whacking UMNO as a corrupt political party, not the race. Such difference ought to have been obvious to Rais even if it is not obvious to many other UMNO leaders. Rais' implied call to add numbers to UMNO is the same like any other UMNO leaders bankrupt of ideas. Malays are not a monopoly for UMNO. Corruption drives away members. And to say that "sneers" are aimed at denegrading the Malays are the most dangerous and untrue thing that any UMNO upper rung leader has said so far - because it sounds like he's trying to establish provocation, and hence further usage of Sedition Act and ISA.
It's a crying shame that Rais has decided to stoop so low into the politics of race to win his Vice PresidencyIt is an open secret that the malays have lost their dignity in the eyes of the non malays, even a subject of ridicule. This is not new but has been so since the 60s. It just got worse lately after the Moorthy case. But its just that the non malays, born of giving face, do not have the gumption in them to tell it outright. They expect malays like YOU Rais to tell the malays so.

But you're still playing the numbers and history game instead of principles. See how low you have gone Rais! you don't gave the guts to tell malays that they cannot fall back on historyBut at least you got one thing right in stating that 'Malay supremacy is actually the sovereignity and privileges of the Malay Rulers'.Here we go. Malays are not sitting back and letting things rot. Umno is also trying to get back what it lost. Numbers make the difference indeed and it is such numbers that Anwar could not get on Sept 16 (discussed in story above) that would make or break the PR in the near future! Ohlala! Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim has called for the strengthening of Malay politics through numbers so that other races will stop denigrating and ridiculing the Malays. No it is not te Malay. It is directed to the UMNO leeches and it is not coming only from non-Malay but other Malay as well. You racist please refer to all these good people that there to challenge you as Malaysian. Please return all the ill gotten money to us.“Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim has called for the strengthening of Malay politics through numbers so that other races will stop denigrating and ridiculing the Malays”.What a joke. The “other races” aren’t denigrating and ridiculing the Malays. If they did, they’d be hitting Keadilan and PAS as well. But they aren’t. The other races are for the first time in their lives, actually speaking up following decades of suppression under UMNO supremacist policies. What the other races have essentially done is to put a mirror up to UMNOputeras, so that they can see what they have become. Sadly, instead of trying to improve, they are in denial, and are becoming worse than ever.So now you want numbers. What do you propose? A captive breeding program for woulThe malays or the general population have given UMNO/BN more than 50 yrs to manage the country. What have U guys done? Well, to fool everyone especially the malays by malay leaders. Looks like it is a question of not enough $$$ in the bank. UMNO leadership is like a dynasty, taking turns to rip off the rakyat. Now tell me how our PM kids can get so rich via govt contracts, 30% equity affirmative policies. What happen to the mass malay/bumiputra population? Come mon Rais, U are not that stupid, U are just an old fox that still wants to rely on old tricks to fool the malays. It is the malay leadership that is corrupt that has stiffle malays progress & U are part of it. Which malay minister(except Zaid) dare to question the manner things are done? Don't blame the malays for not supporting. Rightly the malays have send a strong message, do U guys care to clean up. NOO. Guess what we even have a chap being arrested by Australian authorities & made a minister. What a joke a big slap to the malays integrity. Malays are not simple minded people but guys like U with such mentality, I would vote for the opposition.
Mr. Rice s/o Yatim,
You're finished as a politician!
Is this all you have to provide a leadership for the Malaysians?
Just becos you're in the twilight of your career, you don't have to whip up racist sentimentsNobody denigrated or insulted Malays - only Umno and their racist/fascist ideas bent on plunder, in the name of "Ketuanan Melayu"!

The poor Malays have been hoodwinked for fifty years - and many still don't realize what they have lost, by giving up their rights, conscience, culture & humanity.

You guys have perverted the course of democracy & justice by rendering the constitution a worthless piece of paper.

You have belittled the parliament by having all mighty governments and closed door meetings between your allies. Now you have the cheek to tell Malays that they are being insulted by others?
Get out of your denial Syndrome and face facts Rais - you guys are such shameless losers!!You say, "the Malays must stay away from elements that could weaken their image".I agree - they should abandon Umno, just as Umno has abandoned them for money!
Rais is afraid that a lot of malays are beginning to see that the umnoputras are making use of them instead of helping them. Therefore more and more are going to Pas and PR.Rais, you are just a piece of Racist Shit.
Shame on you ... Why wont the non malays look down at DUMNO malays , even there are malays out there who also looks down on the DUMNO malays. Sick and unfit goons who runs this beautiful nation aiming for disaster. This bigot Rias seems more interested to increase the quantities of cows and buffalos in DUMNO and not its quality to be fair to serve the people and the nation irregardless of race and ethnic towards Bangsa Malaysia. Another imbecilRais the biggest racist mother fucker. Rais, nobody is questioning your Malay rights. It is UMNO who is ridiculing themselves. You stupid Rais. You think you are intellectually strong. The people is agianst umno and its crooks not all the malays! For a Minister he ought to know better then to play this racial card but as one recently written blog this lap dog would bow so low to kiss the hand of the bodoh pm.This guy realy needed a job that's all.Another mother fucker of umno driving a wedge against the non malays by letting his interlectual shits out of his mouth.
UM-No is the hypocrite king! You guys started the racial issue in this country and yet you morons blaming other races ridiculing the Malays. We the rakyat has waken up and the day Um-No falls six feet under ground we will start laughing until our teeth falls off.The Malays lost dignity and direction because of UMNO. The new breed of Malays should realised that by now and pull out from UMNO
